The line up is
accomplished by adjusting the center of the lower bearing support into the
center of the top of the cylinder. This adjustment can be made to the
thousandths of an inch by using the optional centering and alignment
indicator. Once alignment is established, it can be securely locked by use
of the two knurled knobs and a side cover clamp.
Since the deck surface is not necessarily parallel to the center line of
the crank, there is one additional line up which set the boring unit
independent of the deck surface. This is accomplished by means of three
aligning screws on the base of the borin g unit. this will allow the
boring unit to set independent of the deck urface.
The boring bar which is housed in the
feed unit, has a bearing at each end of the unit, plus the lower bearing
support at the center line of the crankshaft. This provides a very rigid
system to achieve no deflection of the bar and chatter- free cutting
The connection between the drill
and the boring bar is by means of a yoke driver. This connection is simple
and does not require the drill to be maintained in a true vertical
position. The illustration abouve shows the bar being driven by a 1/2"
gear redu ction drill. The block is mounted to an engine platform,
providing a safe comfortable position for the drill to apply rotation
power. The speed of the drill should be between 500 and 600 rpm's, which
is suitable for both cool bore and IC blocks.
The basic unit comes with three
preset carbide cutters to accommodate the .010", .020", .030" over sizes.
The cutters are set to each customers specifications and are suitable for
both cool bore and IC blocks. The cutters settings will depend on what
clea rance you desire and how you finish hone. Additional cutters are
available to .120" over for stockers and .180" over for open and Jr.
Dragsters. The E-Z Bore unit is a portable boring system which comes in
two custom fitted tool boxes with a designated pl ace for each part.
Because the unit is portable, it stores in little space and can be
transported to the track.
E-Z Bore mantains an outgoing research and development program. In this program many new tools and race related parts have been developed and tested to assist you in your engine program. We also have a good working relationship with several major cam manuf actures, plus a wide range of technical information from engine builders all over the country.
Some of the special tools developed and the products we supply are as follows.
